In case it hasn’t occurred to you, when the state decides what is and is not essential in terms of business, it’s deciding what is essential for the state, not for the individual.
We are now witness to just how destructive that is [1]:
Last Friday morning, some 3,500 New Yorkers lined up at a Catholic church in Queens to receive free food hours before it even opened, according to the New York Police Department. Catholic Charities has reported a 200 percent increase in demand over the past month and a half.
By prolonging the coronavirus shutdown long after its core mission was accomplished, Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio have plunged tens of thousands of New Yorkers into poverty.
It needs to end. Now.
In mid-March, we were told we have to endure a lockdown to ensure that hospitals didn’t get overrun. We did. The hospitals were not overwhelmed. We turned the Javits Center into a hospital. We didn’t need it. We brought in a giant Navy ship to treat New Yorkers. We didn’t need it.
We were told we were moments away from running out of ventilators. We weren’t, and now the United States has built so many, we are giving them away to other countries.
Meanwhile, the Big Apple is dying. Its streets are empty. The bars and jazz clubs, restaurants and coffeehouses sit barren. Beloved haunts, storied rooms, perfect-slice joints are shuttered, many for good. The sweat equity of countless small-business owners is evaporating. Instead of getting people back to work providing for their families, our mayor talks about a fantasyland New Deal for the post-coronavirus era.
Open the city. All of it. Right now. Broadway shows, beaches, Yankees games, the schools, the top of the freakin’ Empire State building. Everything. New Yorkers have already learned to socially distance. Businesses can adjust. The elderly and infirm can continue to be isolated.
It’s undeniable that New York City has been harder hit than most areas, but of course that has as much to do with cramming so many people into such a small area which in my view is mismanagement to begin with…To say nothing of the other nonsense that the Democrats have managed to inflict on the people.
That said however, and for all that New York City is a microcosm of this effect, this effect is undeniably Nationwide [2].

Steve Walker, the owner of Walker Music & Textiles Co. in Hastings, Michigan, wept as he spoke with WXMI-TV during a recent interview in which he said Michigan’s lockdown order had forced him and his wife out of business.
The damage to the economy has already well begun as demonstrated in New York, but how long lasting it will be, depends entirely on how much we let the Democrats get away with. Those would be the people demanding that we extend the shutdown, in case you’ve lost track.
And their policies, seem designed to make return to normalcy impossible.
Ponder: Businesses are now having problems attracting people back to work versus unemployment via governmental largesse [3].
There are questions however about all of this that very few people seem to be asking and of course I’m quite ready to jump into that particular abyss…
Through any of this have you seen any politicians who had gone without haircuts who weren’t extraordinary reluctant if not defiant about wearing a mask, who weren’t wearing a nicely pressed and well-kept suit, and who had gone without a paycheck? In fact, Nancy Pelosi’s Congress critters just got through giving themselves a raise in the midst of all of this. Talk about the ultimate “let them eat cake” move, and that’s got to be close to the top of the list.
Isolation? Sure, if your health is vulnerable, I can see that. But consider these two points…
You do not obtain immunity to a disease by avoiding that disease…you build up immunity to a disease by exposure to that disease.
And when in world history has there ever been a time when we’ve managed to defeat a virus by quarantining the healthy?
Meantime, 25% of America’s restaurants won’t reopen. They’re all done. [4] Killed off by governmental overreaction.
The government-mandated face masks do absolutely nothing to slow down the spread of the virus, and cause harm to the healthy. [5]
The fact is the shutdown did absolutely nothing [6] toward the stated goal. Note the emphasis on the word “stated.”
What’s the real purpose of all this?
Killing off the economy… The one point that the anti- Trumper’s can’t argue with is the economic impact of his policies. Economic growth that hasn’t been seen anywhere in this country’s history.
Let’s remember, we’re dealing with people who operate under the idea of “never let a good crisis go to waste”.
Doesn’t it strike you as passing strange that the Democrats who are uniformly calling for the extension of shutdowns and impositions on the American population are the ones who stand to benefit most politically speaking by those shutdowns, and by what fear this business has instilled in the population? Cripple the economy, and you take away the biggest argument for voting for Trump. There is no doubt in my mind that there are those who hope to keep the economy crippled until, say, the third week in November.
It’s time to put a stop to this nonsense.
