Little Donny Versus Dim Won

Little Donny, a/k/a Donald Trump, suggests he meet with a third world dictator under the right circumstance, from CNN [1]:

He has extended a White House invitation to Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte, a leader who has defended the assassination of journalists and condoned extrajudicial killings in the name of his war on drugs.

In multiple interviews, President Donald Trump has also heaped praise on North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, calling him a “smart cookie,” and saying he would be “honored” to meet with him under the right circumstances.

Reaction, the media soils their nappies.    Now set the Way Back Machine to the year 2008, from Polifact [2]:

[Question] “Would you be willing to meet separately, without precondition, during the first year of your administration, in Washington or anywhere else, with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea, in order to bridge the gap that divides our countries?”

“I would,” Obama said. “And the reason is this, that the notion that somehow not talking to countries is punishment to them — which has been the guiding diplomatic principle of this administration — is ridiculous.”

From enlightened to scary in the course of eight years.   Now when Obama regime talked to the Iranians, nobody but nobody, represented United States interests.   I would expect that the Trump administration would represent both our interests, along with those of the civilized world.   As for speaking with your enemies, I endorse the approach of how U.S. Grant talked to R.E, Lee.
