Nightly Ramble: Cultural Changes

Today, I’ve run from outside Rochester to Batavia New York – Carlisle Pennsylvania. A fairly short run, but my truck was down for routine service for a while. So I guess all is good. Not sure where I’m going now just yet, but that’s also par for the course. I do want to try and get the truck washed today. I’ve got my high speed polisher with me and should be able to attack these wheels pretty quickly too. All is well except I miss my wife and kids already. Welcome to my world.

Readers who are music fans will appreciate this comparison.

You know how bands will occasionally change their lineups of personnel. Personal falling out, health problems, what have you. When foundational players change in a rock group, their popularity tends to wane, because the entire feel… the entire sound of the band changes, and usually not for the better. Now, admittedly, there are occasional examples of bands surviving such changes, but never for very long. The magic, once the change happens is gone.

Cultures are like that too. Change an element in the culture, and the magic is gone. That unquantifiable that made the culture great, disappears and eventually so too does the culture itself.

That’s particularly true of cultures forcibly changed by the power of government. We’ve discussed [2] this several times before. I suggest a lot of what we’re seeing right now, comes directly back to that discussion.

And the sad part is the Republicans don’t seem to have the stomach to stand up to it.

Notice it looks like that’s going to change anytime soon.
I observe that while the GOP establishment is busy denouncing Trump, Hillary Clinton is not busy denouncing Bernie Sanders. Nor, for that matter is anybody else in the Democrat Party.

Ponder why that might be, and you’ll have some idea of what’s going wrong with the Republican Party lately.

It’s certainly no secret that Romney was dismissing and disavowing conservative Republicans while having no objections whatsoever to his Democrat opponents, this previous cycle.

In fact, they’ve been doing it since before Reagan. Remember, the GOP wasn’t too happy about drinking either, which is why we ended up with Bush as VP. The establishment thought Reagan was too conservative.

Ponder also, Sarah Palin had a larger following on the top of the ticket, John McCain. Observe the treatment she received and explain to me how it’s any different than what Trump is receiving, or before trump came along what Ted Cruz was receiving, Rand Paul, or any of the other more conservative leaning candidates.

The damage these people are doing to the party is in measurable. I note with dry amusement Lindsey Graham the other day, complaining how Trump is ruining the party, while ignoring the damage that he himself has caused with his left leaning.

. I’ve been saying since Obama got elected, but the Republican Party will not win another presidential election until such time as they start putting genuine actual dyed in the wool constitutional conservatives in power.

What I am seeing so far it does not make me very hopeful but that’s going to happen in this cycle. By the time these idiots figure out which way things are going, it’s going to be too late for the party, and more importantly for the country.

And down the road I go. I’ll see you tomorrow.
