Juan Williams Scratches the Fleas

NPR can either go partisan or public, Michael Meyers, New York Daily News, is lost in the weeds with respect to National Public Radio:

Juan Williams is right; NPR was way off base firing him for having expressed himself on a TV show. But some are going too far in Williams’ name; they vindictively want to totally de-fund the left-leaning NPR because of this outrageous firing.

Big mistake. There ought to be uninterrupted public dollars in support of public radio.
Withdrawal of public dollars would raise the specter of official censorship and selective bans on “objectionable ideas,? and that would only strangle independent voices on public radio, and on public television as well.

Meyers is full of it.  National Public Radio has the right to be either public or partisan.   It has no right to be both.  As long as NPR accepts public money, it is obligated to represent the views of all Americans, and not just the hard core leftards.

Of course, I agree. The problem with the analysis is that the argument has long since ceased to be whether or not NPR has the right to be partisan.  Regardless of their having the right in actuality, they have long since ceased to be anything but partisan.

I submit that while he may in fact be (as Billy suggests) naught but a punk, this latest episode with Williams is really just the latest in a long string of such incidents.  Consider what Billy also points out, elsewhere:

“I think he ought to be worried about the — about what’s going on in the good Lord’s mind, because if there’s retributive justice, he’ll get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it.”

That was Nina Totenberg on Jesse Helms in 1995. Why does this botulitic dipshit still have a job at NPR?

And of course by extension consider the difference between Totenberg and Williams and the relative reactions by NPR to each.  The reason for that difference between them is the leftist, big government slant that has always existed at NPR. When you have an media entity that is funded by the Federal government and by rich leftists (such asthe millions being poured in by George Soros) …what else could possibly occur by the leftist slant in their output?  I submit that Williams is the latest proof of this concept, in a long list of such.

As Jim DeMint suggests:

“I think it’s reasonable to ask why Congress is spending taxpayers’ money to support a left-wing radio network – and in the wake of Juan Williams’ firing, it’s clearer than ever that’s what NPR is,” said House Republican leader John Boehner (R-Ohio.)

Williams, for his part, appears to have learned a hard lesson.  The fact is that Williams has been reliably Liberal, and reliably carrying water for the leftists, for decades now.  Apparently, the treatment received at the hands of the people he’s been carrying water for so long for, has woken him up.  He calls the firing “censorship”,

and he’s absolutely right.   It is said that a conservative is a liberal who’s been mugged.  Apparently, Williams considers that he has been mugged by NPR.

JUAN WILLIAMS, FIRED NPR NEWS ANALYST: I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I have written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on a plane, I have got to tell you if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.

NPR’s reaction was lame at best, in light of their history:

VIVIAN SCHILLER, NPR PRESIDENT AND CEO: This action was not anti-Fox. This action was pro-journalistic standards, and a news analyst cannot continue credibly to analyze the news if they are expressing opinions about divisive issues. It’s that simple, and the same would go with anybody. We are not picking on Juan

Which o course is why the aforementioned Nina Totenberg still has a job at NPR, right, Vivian?

Let me be clear; I shed no tears for Juan Williams.  When you lie down with dogs, you get fleas. Sorry, what it is. The man has been a tool of the left for as long as he’s been around the Journalistic world.  But it’s time that we call NPR the flat out liars and left wing shills that they are, as Williams has now started doing, if for no other reason than this situations does such a wonderful job of exposing them as such.

Ohhh… and does anyone think this will not have an effect on the upcoming election ?  The left was already on the ropes.  It strikes me that this situation isn’t going to do their imaging any good at all.
