Missouri Congressman Russ Carnahan is a traitor*, from Ed Martin, candidate for Congress :
As Americans prepare to file and pay their taxes, it’s come to light that Rep. Russ Carnahan may be skimping on his. The Congressman avoids paying personal property taxes on his 42-foot yacht by docking it in Alton, Illinois instead of his hometown.
“Illinois does not have a statewide property tax. Property is taxed on the local level only, and includes only real property such as land, buildings or permanent facilities.” (St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association; Taxes and Incentives)
Ironically just a few hours ago, Rep. Carnahan gave the following quote on tax cuts to the Associated Press.”From investing in small business to buying a home or making it energy efficient, to sending your children to college to buying a car, these tax cuts are helping families and businesses across the country,” said Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-Mo.” (AP Stephen Ohlemacher April 14, 2010) So how does the tax cut on his yacht, Congressman Carnahan took for himself, help families and businesses across the country? Like so many Washington insiders Carnahan doesn’t think the rules apply to him.
