Well, well, well. Breaking news all over that the Dems have now abandoned Demon Pass.
WaPo alert:
House Democratic leaders say they will take a separate vote on the Senate health care bill, rejecting an earlier, much-criticized strategy that would have permitted them to “deem” the measure passed without an explicit vote.
The Hill [2] tweets: “Our Roxana Tiron reports Rep. Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.) told her Pelosi now WILL NOT use ‘deem and pass.'”
It’s certainly an interesting development, but I am less than fully impressed that it is a good thing. It strikes me that the reason that the democrats decided that they were going to use such trickery was because they didn’t have the votes. Is it possible the reason they decided against using such trickery is that they actually do have the votes, after all?
