ATTENTION GOP: Wrong Direction, Michael. It’s Time for You Leave.

I’ve given Michael Steele every chance. I’ve held my tongue, while I watched him bumble around as, I reasoned, newcomers to any position will.  But this Politico column of today [1]is the final straw.

First, the Republican Party will be forward-looking – it is time to stop looking backward. Republicans have spent ample time re-examining the past. It has been a healthy and necessary task. But I believe it is now time for Republicans to focus all of our energies on winning the future by emerging as the party of new ideas. Republicans are emerging once again with the energy, the focus, and the determination to turn our timeless principles into new solutions for the future.

No, Michael, wrong. Dead wrong. You’re trying to have it both ways, and that pattern is exactly why the GOP is on the outs just now. The choice Republicans make here will determine if they ever get their majority back. They lost that majority not because they tilted to far right, but that they went too far LEFT.

So, here’s the question now before the GOP leadership: Is it going to be “new ideas”, or “timeless principles”? It cannot be both. The resurgence you speak of is the number of people who are angry with the party for having compromised on those timeless principles to be seen as ‘new’ and fresh, and relevant. Such ideas are illusory. The GOP’s platform needs to be based on the principles of limited government laid out here [2].

Your comments not withstanding, Republicans as a party shouldn’t be, as they have been, focused on the idea that we need to change in order to be relevant. We need to show that our principles are already relevant and should never have been relinquished. Your inability to square yourself fully with that idea in my view disqualifies you from the position you now hold.

Addendum:  (David L)

This is simple.  The Barack Obama has declared war on the American People.  The retard in chief, wants to tax your health, the energy you use and the very car you drive.   Obama’s vision for our country will kill people,  longer waits for medical care, less medicines, more expensive energy and more dangerous cars.    Either Michael Steele, and the entire republican party, becomes part of the solution, or is just another part of the problem.    Either the republcan party needs to find some leaders  or the People need to find a party with leaders.    We are in a war.
