Nightly Ramble:Market Yo-Yos; Oil Down; Obama Intimidation Squads;more

Welcome dear reader, to the most intense nightly read on the ‘sphere… Bitsblog’s Nightly Ramble. [1]

  • Second place for the boss at OTB’s caption contest [2].
  • Market went up another 300 points this morning. Lost most of that in the afternon, then got it back again. Another wild ride, and this is apparently becoming the norm.  Guess I can postpone jumping off that building, though.
  • Oil’s down below $70 [3]. Iran is screaming for a meeting of OPEC [4]. Other members aren’t so worried. Again, this comes down to Iran’s cost of recovery being at $90/bbl, given their delapidated infrastructure.
  • McCain went on Letterman last night [5]. Drew the most viwers Letterman has had in three years. Does that tell you anything?
  •  Boortz, today [6] :

The polls are narrowing between Obama and McCain. We have Gallup polls showing that McCain is within 2 points of Obama with a 49-47 margin. McCain did a good job in the debate, but will it be enough to last him 18 days and give him enough to get the edge on Obama? I would like to think so, but I’m not too confident. How can that many voters actually mature in just 18 days? I would have thought that the “we need to spread the wealth around” comment would have been all it took.

Look, Neal, you and I and the people who listen to talk radio and read our sites, they’re policical junkies. Most people… even ones who vote each year… really don’t know much about what’s going on around them, nor do they care, until a choice is called for.  Joyner points this out at OTB yesterday [7]. So, it’s not until the last few weeks that these folks start gathering information.  We’ve now entered that period, and that is one big reason McCain’s numbers are trending up, while Obama’s are trending down.  The question before us is will those trends continue. And as I said this morning, I think the Gag reflex will ensure they will.

  • There’s three types of people… those that can count, and those that can’t. [8]
  • I see a great post from Michael van der Galien [9]you’ll want to see. He essentially starts where I left off this morning:
  • Oh, boy… I can hear the howling on this one [10] already.

A link between terrorism plots and hardcore child pornography is becoming clear after a string of police raids in Britain and across the Continent, an investigation by The Times has discovered. Images of child abuse have been found during Scotland Yard antiterrorism swoops and in big inquiries in Italy and Spain.Secret coded messages are being embedded into child pornographic images, and paedophile websites are being exploited as a secure way of passing information between terrorists.

Interesting. Embedding info in pics is not all that unusual. Certainly, the major news orgs have been doing it for a long time. This does seem to require a fair degree of IT talent, though…

  • At some point we’re going to need to focus on the idea that not all cultures are equal [11].
  • What’s this [12]about Jack Murtha cancelling his debate [13]? One gets the impression he’s done, by means of some Democrat directive or another. Certainly, every time he opens his mouth, he’s in trouble. Perhaps the DNC doesn’t like him being a lightning rod, anymore?
  • Looks  like Franken’s losing the race with Coleman, having lost it [14]. Clearly, he’s off his meds.
  • The Tribune Company has decided to drop the AP [15].  They’re not the first company to do so, (the Strib being among those who ahve already jumped the AP’s ship, but they are the biggest, and I suspect not the last. The AP had better get it’s act together. And, here’s a hint, AP; That doesn’t mean going after Bloggers for ‘fair use’.
  • Sorry, this is just weird [16].
  • Hawaii isending universal child health care [17] says the AP. Billy notes this today and perhaps has the best commentary on it [18]
  •  Speaking of Billy, he also mentions [19]the API/Obama/Corsi arrest meme today, by quoting Wendy:

“If the story is true, then it could well damage Obama…not so much because his wife accuses opponents of being racist and evil but because intimidation of the press is one of the few behaviors that the American MSM takes seriously.”

I’m not so sure about that last bit, but everybody else [20]should take it seriously.

(Assignment Cell: how long has Barack Obama not known Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, how well has he not known him, and how shocked would Obama be at revelations of Odinga’s true character?)

Well, exactly, Billy. I have to tell you that I’m working along the lines that the arrest of Corsi and the blocking of his investigation strikes me as much the same Stalinist tactis I mentioned here this morning with Joe the Plumber. The message being sent by these thugs seems clear; Don’t dare bring up anything negatve about ‘The Chosen One”.  Press, citizen, anyone.  As I said here about a week or so back, not only did Odinga use the kind of intemidation tactics we’re seeing out of Obama’s people just now, he also publicly ran on a platform of’ ‘hope’ and ‘change’.  Sol Alinsky, call your office.  Billy, you have a pretty vivid imagination for abuse of power, Billy, so imagine with me now what happens [21]when these thugs get the power of government to enforce their desires.

  • Now, here’s a way [22]to solve the problem of rape.
