Identity Politics As a Crutch, And It’s Failures

Reynolds: [1]

For me, of course, most of the fun of the past 24 hours has come from watching Democrats get caught up in the whole identity-politics tangle.

And you know, Glenn’s hit this one. That’s really what this has been all about, the last 24 hours. The Democrats, as quoted by McQ,  in the previous post [2], and by David last night, [3]not really understanding what they were complaining about yet, leaned heavily not o facts, but on the long over-used, and always sexist/racist/bigoted identity politics to try and get a few quick jabs in on Palin, and managed in the process to damage themselves, thereby.

Frankly, I’m unclear which has been more damaging.. the initial attacks and their fallout, or the fallout from Democrats backtracking after recognizing the huge pile of doggie poop they’d stepped in. Either way, they have opened themselves up for serious ridicule from even their own supporters, who seem to me somewhat blindsided by the Obama camp’s stupidity, themselves.

I’ve been saying for years the Identity politics was problematic for the Democrats, given the whole thing is based in their own bigotry, and this is perhaps the best recent example of what I’m talking about.
