Senator John Warner [1], Rep – VA, is suggesting a national speed limit of fifty-five:
WASHINGTON (AP) — An influential Republican senator suggested Thursday that Congress might want to consider reimposing a national speed limit to save gasoline and possibly ease fuel prices.
Sen. John Warner, R-Virginia, asked Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman to look into what speed limit would provide optimum gasoline efficiency given current technology. He said he wants to know if the administration might support efforts in Congress to require a lower speed limit.
Senator Warner, if you think we taxpayers and drivers are using too much gasoline, I suggest you get out and walk. Until such time as you are leading by example, walking, bicycling, or using public transportion, it is simply none of your bloody business how fast, or where I drive. Get to the business of solving our nation energy problem, which is largely a result the failure of Congress of allow for domestic energy production. You need to solving our problems, not aggrevating them. I will not slow down just to allow you to fly around at my expense.
