A Real ‘gas Tax Holiday’… Does Anyone Really have the Guts for It?

A while ago, and once again, earlier today, I pointed out a salient fact that nobody seems to notice:

According to CNN Money [1], Exxon total “profits” if you don’t count exploration costs, were $40BUSD, in 2007. Their taxes, however, were $100BUSD.

With this huge disparity in mind, let us contemplate what a real gas tax holiday would mean:

Multiply this by the number of gas and oil companies there are around, and you’ll geta  rough estimate of how much is being paid by Americans in taxes, through their energy purchases.  Does anyone really think that the federal government is going to proclaim a real tax holiday by removing this tax load? I don’t think so, either.

Does anyone think they’re put in a bind when they talk about dropping 20 cents a gallon off the federal tax bill at the pump? I don’t, either.

Yet, we’ll all be told repeatedly about how much money the oil companies are making. You’ll forgive me if I don’t take any of the candidates, particularly the Democrats, seriously on this. They don’t have the guts to promote a real  gas tax holiday and really help the American people. Not a one of ’em. So spare me the bull, OK?
