Burns Strider, one of the Democratic Party’s leading strategists on winning over evangelicals and other values-driven voters, will join Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) as she prepares to launch her 2008 presidential campaign.
Strider now heads religious outreach for the House Democratic Caucus, and is the lead staffer for the Democrats’ Faith Working Group, headed by incoming Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.).
Incoming Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) created the working group in 2005 when Democratic strategists recognized that the party lost ground in the previous election because of trouble appealing to centrist and conservative voters in rural areas, who tend to be church-goers driven by moral issues. Strider was an aide to Pelosi when the group formed and joined Clyburn’s staff as policy director of the Democratic Caucus in 2006.
I am reminded once again, of that picture of Bill Clinton departing a Washington DC church with a huge Bible in his hand, one that you know darn well he’s not cracked in 30 years. Made a great photo-op, though… and he certainly LOOKED religious.
More to the point; that such consultants are required, tells me that Hillary Clinton does not operate from the same moral makeup as said centrists and conservatives, and particularly the religious, and is not those driven by those moral values that drive the voters she’s trying to attract…. and thereby does not understand them at all… and one may even aver she has little in the way of bedrock values, herself.
Clearly, she feels the need is there for someone to translate for her these values so that she LOOKS like she’s one of them. Rather than actually operating from a set of moral values similar to the voters that she’s trying to sell herself to, she’s buying herself a consultant, so that she can take on that appearance.
It is, in the end, nothing but a facade, a fake, a phony, a fraud.
As is Hillary Clinton, herself.
