Shift in California

Based on the current polling data, Grey-Out Davis will not be Gov of California soon.

I can’t say I’m displeased by this point.  Anyone will be better than Davis.
However, I still wish McClintock stood a chance, here. It’d be great if we could have a real conservative out there.
Still, it’s a start.

What happened to the momentum built up by Bustamante? well, for one thing, immigration. Debra Saunders [1]writes that …

“For Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, there apparently is no such thing as illegal immigration.

Asked at Wednesday night’s gubernatorial debate how much he would spend on health care for the children of illegal immigrants, Bustamante gave no dollar amount, of course. But he was clear on this: He does not believe the state should distinguish between legal and illegal immigrants. “

Apparently, it took an overt anti-American racist like Bustamante, to say nothing of the anti-American bumbling of Davis, to make Californians see just the kind of thing Democrats have been supporting all this time, and react against it.

Does anyone think that this ground shift to the right in what is arguably America’s most liberal dominated state, won’t play in the ’04 national election?
