Speakers marking 40th aniv of King “I have a dream” speech reject a color-blind society
Hard to believe it’s been 40 years since Dr. Martin Luther King uttered the ‘I have a dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial in which he publicly, and dramatically dreamed of a time when people are “not judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”
I’ve spent some of the last couple days going over tapes of the events at the Lincoln Memorial this past week, watching the race warlords once again eulogize their benefactor. I can’t help but think that King would have disowned the lot of them. To a man, they seem bent on ignoring Dr King’s call for a colorblind society, and demanding instead, special treatment based on the color of their skin. Perhaps the reason they want to be judge on the color of their skin is that they can’t be favorably judged on the content of their character.
Which is also, possibly, why to a man they were using the occasion to be openly and unabashedly stumping for Democrats. The connection? Both the race warlords and the Democrats they’re stumping for, both of them need a dependant class to get elected, and to maintain the lifestyle they have each of them existed in for so many years after King’s death.
At what point do Blacks learn the lesson that neither really wants Blacks to advance in our society? Whenever that is, that will be the point at which the black voter will swing away from the Democrat party, and the race warlords that have been benefitting from the connection.
