Coherence from Cohen, some sobering questions from Richard Cohen no Egypt, from the Washington Post: Egypt’s problems are immense. It has a population it cannot support, a standard of living that is stagnant and a self-image as leader of the (Sunni) Arab world that does not, really, correspond to reality. It also lacks the civic […]

Attention countrymen.  This is your fearless leader speaking.  A couple things in the mechanics of running a web site … 1: I have upgraded the WordPress software to version 3.0.  To most users this won’t change a thing.  2:I finally found the nasty bug that’s been causing the homepage not to show itself occasionally.  It […]

Question of the Day, from the Sharp Tack, Clarice Feldman, American Thinker: We shall see if Jew-hatred is acceptable behavior in the eyes of Hearst and the WH press corps, and Thomas is still allowed her place of honor tomorrow. Even Howard Cosell or Jimmy  Synder never publicly suggested that blacks should go back to […]

Taxing the sick to pay for Obama Care, David Freddoso, Washington Examiner: You don’t think Democrats in Congress would knock over their own cancer-stricken mothers to squeeze out a few extra dollars for earmarks? Oh, you’re so wrong. Currently, people with massive medical expenses — more than 7.5 percent of their income — can deduct […]

Eric Holder’s double standard, Leftist Propaganda Machine: “Those who reaffirm our nation’s most essential and enduring values do not deserve to have their own values questioned,” Holder told a group of lawyers who offer “pro bono,” or voluntary, legal services. “Let me be clear about this: Lawyers who provide counsel for the unpopular are, and […]

Until Fearless Leader resumes his Nightly Ramble, settle for a late supper. Is Chuckles vulnerable: Can we start treating Chuckie Schumer (D-NY) as vulnerable NOW? (H/T: Instapundit) He’s dropped another four points in two weeks. 51% in mid-January; 47% now. That’s the lowest it’s been since 2001. Admittedly, he’s currently up more or less two-to-one […]

Janet NapolitanoNot in my wildest dreams would I believe that a US official could be so stupid as to say something like this in the face of unrelenting facts.

And intriguing enough is that it happened on CNN, whose reporting tends to be as supportive of the Obama administration as possible.

Of course, this is coming from the leader of the same department that earlier this year targeted “right-wing extremists” as high-risk for recruiting new members and conducting terrorist activities.

About the only spin one could put on this is that “…the system worked, but it’s broke”.  That perspective behind a statement like this is part of the problem.  Saying that everything worked like it’s supposed to but it’s not supposed to work that way just leaves one wondering how much thought is going into the design of the process that is supposed to be protecting our country.

Clearly the system is broke.  To think that someone who has been identified as a terrorist risk like Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab could be allowed onto a passenger jet without careful screening is just insane… and there are 500,000 people on the list he was placed on a month ago!  As I shared in my piece at the Des Moines Register yesterday, the entire focus […]
