Curses, foiled again. Republican Saxby Chambliss defends his Senate seat in Georgia, Associated Press:
ATLANTA – Georgia Sen. Saxby Chambliss won re-election Tuesday in a runoff, dashing Democrats’ hopes of capturing enough seats in the U.S. Senate to thwart Republican filibusters.
Chambliss’ election to a second term gives the GOP a firewall against Democrats eager to flex their newfound political muscle in Washington.
Dirty Harry Reid will not get his sixty vote majority. Bad news for the ‘rats. Good news for America.

As I said back when I thought Chambliss had the necessary 50%-plus-one to win outright on November 4, this outcome was never in doubt. Delayed perhaps, but never in doubt.
Martin frantically tried to hitch his runoff-campaign wagon to Obama in a state where Obama lost badly. Meanwhile Chambliss had Sarah Palin campaigning for him, which brought people to his rallies even if they planned to vote for Martin instead.
Of course, it’s a lot easier to see it that way from this side of events. 😉
