Here is where the Democrats are today, as noted at OTB’s comments section last night. Two different people, both leftists, both speaking about Iraq and the liberation of it’s people: First one:

Incredulous, I ask if we a re now judging the value of freedom by the dollar sign. And, he responds:
That is a good point. According to Austin’s logic, ousting Charles Mugabe should be worth several hundred billion. The yahoos in Sudan should be worth multiple trillions. At what point does Charles Austin suggest we stop with his logic? Clearly, he’s saying we’re better off with Mugabe in power if he isn’t for all out war resulting in a regime change in Zimbabwe
So, we look further down the comment list, and we see another inDUHvidual:
My personal opinion is that if the people of Iraq wanted freedom, they should have fought for it all by themselves. We have a lot of problems in our own country to deal with, and we are burning up a lot of our resources in Iraq, a country with great wealth of its own.
The real cost of freedom is a willingness to die for it. Did the people of Iraq ever show that?
Actually, they were dying daily. Ask the Kurds, the Marsh people and so on. But here’s the thing… these two are flying Democrat party colors. And in that party this narrow-mindedness is hardly unique. It used to be different in that party, though. Back on January 20th, 1961, we first heard these words:
Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.
…
To those peoples in the huts and villages across the globe struggling to break the bonds of mass misery, we pledge our best efforts to help them help themselves, for whatever period is required—not because the Communists may be doing it, not because we seek their votes, but because it is right.
You know, it’s a wonder to me that the Democrats still invoke JFK as an icon, given how far away from his ideals they’ve traveled.

Tell us bit, how much of a burden have you born for Iraq? Oh yea, none. Others do the fighting and dying, and you get to talk tough. Pretty sweet deal.
Why don’t you tell all the good folks here about the Taliban in Iraq and how we were two weeks away from winning in ‘Nam before libs stopped us?
Here, since we are posting OTB stuff, here is one of yours:
The Awakening, per se’ will continue only if the Iraqis have a proper defense, wherever that comes from. Barring that, the Taliban will be in control and will crush such awakening as might otherwise have flourished.
Yessir folks, if we falter in Iraq, that darn Taliban is poised to strike…
BTW, as for me being a “leftist” I voted for Reagan twice. Thought he was a hell of a guy then. Still do.

Ummm Nice job… almost… of editing my comments, while not answering the point on JFK. I’m forced to assume you HAVE no answer. As for your posturing as a former Republican, you’ll get no points from me or anyone else for what you used to be. Senility, after all, is no crime.
And calling yourself a Republican, particularly in the past tense, gets you no particular points either, as our continued complaints about McCain shows. Even if I was to take such a claim as a serious indicator of where you are now, I’m reminded of an old Janet Jackson tune: What have you done for me lately?
Meanwhile, A bit of advice: You appear to have a bit of foam on your chin. Did you know?

Well I could list what the Bush GOP has done. Massive deficit. Katrina fiasco. Erosion of constitution. Failure to get Bin Ladan. And so on. Not trying for points. Simple fact is your incessant use of “leftist” is just name calling in absence of strong arguments.
As for editing, you had no problem editing my comments to your liking. Quit crying.
A guy who is running around talking about the Taliban being poised to strike in Iraq is talking about others foaming at the mouth? That’s a good one 🙂

What has Forty-Three done? The Islamist attacked us in 1982, the first attack on the World Trade Center. They continued to attack us every year, to to the Cole. Which response to the Islmaist war on Amerida, President B.J. Clinton did virtually nothing.
Instead of attacking our nation’s enemies the Islamist radicials, B.j. attacked Haiti and waged an illegal war on Yugoslavia.
In fact Clinton seemed more intent on attacking American citizens like David Koresh et al, than he did our enemies.
Clinton inherited an growing enconomy from Forty One and left Forty Three with one in recession.
Dubya revived the economy, atopped the Islamtist attacks and took the fight to them.
Aside from Koresh et al, about the only person Clinton waged war on was Elian Gonalez.

Since you are on the subject, lets talk about political parties walking away from their icons and core principals. Here we have words of wisdom from Dwight D. Eisenhower:
