Not a Christian Nation?

I have often referred to Martin Luther in these spaces, with particular emphasis on his belief that it is the individual who must have a relationship one on one with God. He stressed the value of the individual.

Recently we have seen Muslims complaining about that reliance on the individual, the importance of the individual. Interesting week, the American Left has been doing the same thing.

Over the last many years I have taken it upon myself to study in a somewhat cursory fashion the various Eastern religious philosophies. In the process of that I must say I found them wanting.

But I must also say, that I am struck once again by the idea that in my studies of all the various pantheistic worldviews the one singular point in all of that, that stands out, is that Christianity alone, particularly Protestantism, focuses on the *individual*.

We have heard for generations now, screams from the left, particularly the social left, that these United States are not a Christian nation. It’s got to the point where the Democrat at their most recent convention, booed God. Remember that one?

But how else other than the connection to Christianity can we explain the focus of all of our founding documents, and all of those writings of our founding fathers and our philosophies in law and in literature on the individual?
