Who is trying “to divert our attention” from the actual culprit, namely the Creepy Little Weirdo [1] who clearly should have been locked away at the kook farm long ago? It wasn’t Wayne LaPierre and “the odious gun lobby” who pulled the trigger, was it?
It was the ACLU, not the NRA, which insisted on de-institutionalizing the mentally ill [2].
