I note Mark Steyn, this morning:

Hillary Clinton, America’s secretary of state, was in Canada last week. She criticized Ottawa for not inviting aboriginal groups to a meeting on the Arctic, and for not including the facilitation of abortion in the Canadian government’s “maternal health” initiative to developing countries. These might seem curious priorities for the global superpower at a time of war, but, with such a full plate over at the State Department, it’s no wonder that peripheral matters like Iranian nuclear deadlines seem to fall by the wayside.

The Obama administration came into office promising to press the “reset” button with the rest of the world after eight years of the so-called arrogant, swaggering Texan cowboy blundering his way around the planet offending peoples from many lands.  Instead, Obama pressed the ejector-seat button: Brits, Czechs, Israelis, Indians found themselves given the brush.

It’s clear to me, that what’s happening is that the Democrats currently infesting the White House are all about destroying the concept of American exceptionalism. Such destruction would certainly be required in the era of a one- world socialist government.  Certainly, this would be directly in line with (As Steyn points out) his statement in Berlin, that he is a “citizen of the world”.  I said at that time, that it was a clear signal that he is “reset” was going to amount to diminishing the role of the united states in the world .  As Steyn goes on to explain, though this is not a uniquely Obama-held goal.

The entire administration suffers, to put it at its mildest, from systemic indifference to American allies. It wasn’t Obama but a mere aide who sneered to Fleet Street reporters that Britain was merely one of 200 countries in the world and shouldn’t expect any better treatment than any of the others. It wasn’t Obama but the State Department that leaked Hillary Clinton’s dressing down of Prime Minister Netanyahu. Ally-belittling comes so reflexively to this administration that it’s now doing drive-by bird-flipping.

What we have here is a childish mindset… socialism…  being given the power of government.  I suggest that is  not unlike giving the keys to the Z28 to your 13 year old.  It’s a foregone conclusion that before the echo dies, that car is going to be seeing more air time than a snowboarder. The allusion to the thirteen year old I think is particularly apt, given the lack of maturity required for the leftist mindset.  It is clear that nobody and I mean nobody attached to this administration has any understanding whatsoever of the consequences attached to their actions, and their words. as with the thirteen year old and the car, the results are predictably devastating  to the causes America has stood for, freedom among them.

Either that, or they do.  No, I’m not double clutching this one. Understand me clearly…  The kinder reading on this is that like the thirteen year old, they have no real concept of the damage that can be inflicted by their actions.  My instinct is to believe at least superficially that they really don’t know what they’re doing.

But, there is one other possibility… a far more sinister one.   Maybe… maybe they do understand that they are being destructive to America and its ends.  You see, those seem to be the only two choices.  Either  those involved with this administration are inept to the point of criminality , or else they are intentionally destroying our standing in the world, and that is most certainly criminal.  There is no third option.

I will point out to you that during the last several Republican administrations , allusions have been made to “Cowboy Diplomacy”.  But, you know, I have met a number of cowboys, in my travels.  One personality feature that I find common to all of them is that they were extraordinarily friendly people.  Perhaps, not as polite as some in the formal sense, but down to earth friendly people, with a great deal of common sense.  I have to say that I don’t recall any Republican administration going so far out of their way to destroy our  relationships with long-term Allies.  But this administration has been doing it right along, and seems proud of it.

Isn’t it time we started asking why?
