Drunk passes on run for Congress, Susan Milligan, Boston Globe [1]:

WASHINGTON — Joseph P. Kennedy III will not run for Congress this year, the assistant district attorney said in an interview today, ending speculation that he would seek the 10th District seat if Representative William Delahunt retires.

Kennedy, the son of former US Representative Joseph P. Kennedy and grandnephew of the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy, said he was very happy in his current job as an assistant district attorney for the Cape and Islands and did not want to leave that position yet.

The Dumbo Touch, Steve Tetreault, Laa Vegas Review Journa [2]l:

WASHINGTON — During his whirlwind visit to Las Vegas two weeks ago, President Barack Obama mentioned U.S. Sen. Harry Reid by name four dozen times, gave him a big hug and talked him up as if he was a long-lost brother.

[…]

But as Reid faces an uphill path to win re-election to a fifth Senate term, Obama’s enthusiastic endorsement does not appear to have improved the Senate majority leader’s standing among constituents, according to a new poll conducted for the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Government employee unions sputter in Motor City, Christine MacDonald, Detroit News [5]:

Detroit –Mayor Dave Bing today criticized leaders of the city’s largest union for foot-dragging on contract negotiations, saying it’s costing the financially strapped city $500,000 a month and could result in more layoffs.

“Either they can’t read, they can’t add or they can’t comprehend,” Bing said at a press conference this morning in his office at City Hall. “It has to be one of the three.

“Everyone is running with a deficit in their budgets. It’s leadership or a lack of leadership that has got us to where we are.”

I long used Dave Bing as role model for how a college athletic can use sports as spring board for success in life.  It does happen.  It just all too  rare.  Oh by the way, Dave’s former back court mate not doing that bad either [6].
