The Silence of the ‘Rats

The federal Oath of Office [1], for all Members of Congresss:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God

From Ed Whelan, National Review [2]:

Eleanor Holmes Norton, the nonvoting D.C. delegate to the House who aspires to be its voting representative, has made clear that she regards questions of constitutionality as irrelevant and that she thinks members of the House and Senate do, too. “I don’t think members are in the least bit affected in their votes on the question of its constitutionality,” she said just last week. “People vote their politics in the House and in the Senate.”  If true, that’s a very sad commentary on Congress. It’s even sadder that it appears to apply to our attorney general as well.

Indifference to the Constitution is not defense of the Constitution.  Holmes-Notton has but two honorable choices.   One, she can sue Ed Whelan, and the Washington Post for libel.   Whelan has just charged, by impliation, Holmes-Norton of being a liar and breaking her oath of office.   Two, Holmes-Norton can resign.

As for Mrs. Pelosi, Holmes-Norton has impugned every member of both Mrs. Pelosi’s caucus and the entire House.   Censure would be the least Mrs. Pelosi could do to redeem her honor.

The silence of the ‘rats will speak volumes.
