From WROC/8 in Rochester:

Steve Minarik, 49, of Webster, passed away early Saturday morning of a heart attack. Minarik was a New York State political figure who served as the chairman of the Monroe County and NY State Republican Committees.

He led the Republican Party to a takeover of the County Legislature and elected three consecutive Republican county executives: Robert L. King, Jack Doyle, and Maggie Brooks.

His successes as County Chairman led Governor George Pataki to select him to be the Republican state chairman in November 2004.

A little too centrist in the Bush mode for my taste. and yet a fredinly outgoing guy, with a remakable presence. He was one of those guys it was hard not to like.
