Galveston city officials said Monday they plan to work more closely with event promoters, such as a weekend rap concert organizer, to prevent out-of-control crowds and traffic jams that resulted in 12 arrests over the weekend.
The city does not expect any other problems this week, spring break for many area school districts and colleges.
“The city welcomes spring breakers, but we ask them to respect our island while they visit and obey our laws,” Galveston City Manager Steve LeBlanc said. “If everyone can do that, we can all have a good time.”
LeBlanc said the city was not aware of any other concerts scheduled during spring break. Regardless, police plan to have additional officers on duty for the remaining spring break weekends, he said.
Galveston is a popular spring break destination for families, especially since the city prohibits alcoholic beverages on the beaches, with the exception of East Beach, where the rap concert took place Sunday afternoon.
So, lemme see if I understand their confusion, here. They had a rap concert, which turned into a fight scene.
