Fox News:

Mitt Romney told a conservative group briefly stunned silent by the news that he is suspending his bid for the Republican presidential nomination.During his speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference on Thursday, Romney said if he prolonged his run, it would hurt the party and front-runner John McCain’s ability to defeat the Democratic nominee.

“If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator (Hillary) Clinton or (Barack) Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror,” he said.

Hmm.  I suspect he’s been struggling with the same questions I was wrestling with this morning. This effectively leaves via absentia, the nomination to McCain.  Thing is, he’s got to maintain the appearance of being true to the party. I don’t. His questions appear to have been answeed for him by party loyalty. Mine cannot be.

Public notice to John McCain: Go ahead… convince me. I’m begging you.

Addendum:  (David L)

Well with respect the raging debate who would be better John McCain or Barack Obama/Mrs. Clinton, Mitt has case his vote.   I will give it a lot of weight.

On the bright side, McCain no longer has any use for Mike Huckabee.  Expect him to be thrown under the bus.    Speaking of the bus, how many minutes before the Straight Talk  Express makes a hard left turn?
