As a rule, an e-mail will carry the IP address of the originating SMTP server — in “awesome’s” case, Hotmail.com.
Not that he couldn’t be tracked down if his communication devolved to harassment or outright threats, but it would require gaining the cooperation of the Microsoft/Hotmail bunch.
