You might be interested in learning that I’ve done some very significant work in the area of speeding up performance on site.
Mostly, it has to do with optimization of the database that drives the site. The database is now approximately 25% smaller than it was in terms of total content… (None of what I stripped is being used anymore) and about a quarter of this size that was in terms of the number of tables…. most of this from add-ons I’m not using, anymore.
Translation: you should notice a pretty fair difference in the way the thing handles. Think of it as stripping down a car… shedding a lot of excess weight, for racing. Searches and crosslinks particularly should be far faster.
