—  WASHINGTON — George W. Bush, despite all his recent bravado about being an apostle of small government and budget-slashing, is the biggest spending president since Lyndon B. Johnson.  In fact, he’s arguably an even bigger spender than LBJ.

Well, David, they share one other major thing in common… they were both wartime Presidents. I suppose that point never occurred to you.  Oh… and need I really remind you that Presidents don’t spend money… Congress does? And finally, the only real measure of such things is as a percentage of the GDP. But then, if you stuck to that, you’d not have a story, now, would you?

I mean, I know you’ve got an agenda to sell, and all, but at least try not to make it so damned obvious.

Hat tip to… well, you know.
