Trust me when I tell you, that this is more likely the girl being concerned about her own popularity, within her given circle, versus any serious political considerations. Apparently, it’s been long enough since these people were seventeen, that they find themselves unable to detect such things when they fall over them.
Basically what we have here, is people throwing any mud they can possibly get their hands on. Michelle’s reaction is right on target, and a decent snark, at that… and so she wins the “Snark of the Day” award.
