LAS VEGAS —AP-  Lee Hazlewood, a singer and songwriter best known for writing and producing “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'” for Nancy Sinatra, has died. He was 78.

Barton Lee Hazlewood died at his home in Henderson of kidney cancer on Saturday evening, the Clark County coroner’s office said.

lee-hazlewood.jpgHazelwood also did three albums with Nancy Sinatra, (THe first two of which were amazingly listenable, given neither had what you would call operatic ability… and I never heard the third one, whichw as released in 2004)…  He worked with Duane Eddy.  He wrote “Houston” for Dean Martin, produced “Something Stupid” for Frank and Nancy Sinatra… His songs have attained something of a cult status, and are being recorded by some of the cutting edge of today’s rockers.
