I am certainly not going to be able to keep on top of this to the degree that the mainline news media is, particularly the Strib.
But both Fox and the Star Tribune, are reporting that the 35 W. bridge over the Mississippi river has collapsed at the end of rush hour. Cause as yet unknown, injuries and or deaths as yet unknown, though the unofficial estimates of the injured are between 20 and 30.
There was construction going on on the bridge at the time,a nd has been since the start of the summer. At this point there is no indication whether or not the construction was involved with the collapse. Homeland Security, as you might expect, was involved, they are reporting that there is no indication of terrorist activity, and the assumption on their part at the moment is that we are dealing with some kind of an engineering issue.
No word, at this point, from our friends at the Captain’s Quarters. If I recall correctly they live up in the Twins.
