Britt Hume: John Murtha is “long Past the Day”

Britt HumeThink Progress [1] is up in arms again.   This time over a comment made by Britt Hume, on Fox News Sunday. Hume describes John Murtha as  “naivete at large. [2]”  In the segment, Juan Williams did not challenge the veracity of Hume’s statement.

Listen to Murtha here [3], and here [4].

John MurthaMurtha has got down the art of being an angry old man.   Alas, it is anger short on facts.   What does it say about Team Pelosi when her hand picked choice for majority leader is a dotty old man?

Addendum I:  I found the Washington Post editorial [5], to which Hume referred:

Mr. Murtha’s cynicism is matched by an alarming ignorance about conditions in Iraq. He continues to insist that Iraq “would be more stable with us out of there,” in spite of the consensus of U.S. intelligence agencies that early withdrawal would produce “massive civilian casualties.” He says he wants to force the administration to “bulldoze” the Abu Ghraib prison, even though it was emptied of prisoners and turned over to the Iraqi government last year. He wants to “get our troops out of the Green Zone” because “they are living in Saddam Hussein’s palace”; could he be unaware that the zone’s primary occupants are the Iraqi government and the U.S. Embassy?

The liberals seem to get made at conservatives, even if they quote a liberal Bible, the WaPo.

Addendum II:  directorblue of Doug Ross @ Journal has Murtha’s original remarks to whiich Hume refered, here [6]::

REP. JOHN P. MURTHA, D-PA.: People tend to say well, if we leave, there’s going to be chaos. I don’t believe that. Seventy- eight percent of the Iraqis say that’s not going to happen. Seventy- eight percent of the Iraqis say it will be — we’re the ones that are causing this, and Al Qaida is going to be — Al Qaida’s going to disappear.

I have noticed no defense of Murtha’s remarks. ?
