Paul Martin Won’t Attend Reagan Funeral

The Globe and Mail [1] is reporting this morning:

“Ottawa – Prime Minister Paul Martin decided yesterday not to go to Washington to attend the state funeral of former U.S. president Ronald Reagan, two days after his letter of condolence raised eyebrows about whether he is distancing himself from the United States during a hard-fought election campaign.”

Will Bithead call this a snub of the United States?
Darned right, I will.

Oh, I know… Martin has an election he’s concerned about. At least, that’ll be the excuse given. But if this is an example of the way he deals in foreign affairs, it’s an election he and his government deserve to lose flat out, on tha point alone… and that’s to say nothing of the rest of the matter of the state Canada has been left in with the Liberal governments there. Should it be pointed out that Martin has also opted out of the G-8 Summit?

Get used to hearing the phrase “Prime Minister Stephen Harper.”.
