The New York Post is reporting today:

“June 22, 2004 — Fake circulation reports by Newsday and the Chicago Sun-Times have sparked questions about the entire newspaper industry and the Audit Bureau of Circulations, the group responsible for monitoring the numbers. ”

Now you’ll be hearing about how this all adds up to money… ad revenue… and I don’t deny that figures into these fake numbers. But I would also point out that this fraud has much to do with the papers doing what they can to fight the perception that their influence is being reduced… by online sources such as what you’re reading right now.
